Choosing a VCC Name

Every business needs a name to uniquely identify itself and to make it easy for others to find the business.

The first step is to choose a suitable name for your VCC. Once you have a suitable name, conduct a search on Bizfile Search Directory to find out whether the name is available. Avoid selecting names which are:

  • Identical to an existing business;

  • Undesirable i.e. names which are vulgar, obscene or offensive; or

  • Prohibited by order of the Minister for Finance.

Note: Please read ACRA Policy Statement for guidelines on selection of names.

Registering a Name

You must first register a VCC name via the VCC Portal before you can incorporate your VCC. The name application costs $15. After the name application is approved, the name will be reserved for 120 days. The VCC must be incorporated within this period. Otherwise, the name approval will lapse, and applicant will have to submit a fresh name application.

A name application may be referred to the Referral Authorities for review (e.g. if your VCC name has the word “school”, it may be referred to the Ministry of Education for review and approval). Click here to read more about the Referral Authorities.

Once the name application is approved, you can proceed to incorporate the VCC.

Withdrawal of Name Application

An approved VCC name application which is still within the name reservation period i.e. 120 days may be withdrawn prior to submitting the application for incorporation or Transfer of Registration.

You may withdraw the name via the VCC Portal > eServices > Start a new VCC or Sub-fund > Withdrawal of name application.
