If you no longer wish to continue to practise as a public accountant, you may apply to cancel your registration.

Requirements for Cancellation

You may apply to cancel your registration as a public accountant to be cancelled anytime of the year provided that:

  1. ACRA has not received any complaint or information against you under the Accountants Act or
  2. There are no pending disciplinary proceedings against you.
If:Steps to be taken
You are the sole public accountant practising in a public accounting firm / public accounting corporation (PAC) /accounting limited liability partnership (Accounting LLP)
  1. Apply for the revocation of status of the public accounting firm / PAC / Accounting LLP OR
  2. Admit a new public accountant partner into the public accounting firm / Accounting LLP, or a new public accountant director into the PAC. The new public accountant director must also be a member of the PAC.
  3. Submit an application to cancel your registration.
You are the sole public accountant holding the position as a “Managing Partner” (in a public accounting firm and Accounting LLP) / “Managing Director” (in a PAC)
  1. Submit a Change in Particulars of the public accounting firm / PAC / Accounting LLP to appoint another public accountant to hold the position of “Managing Partner” (in a public accounting firm and Accounting LLP) / “Managing Director” (in a PAC).
  2. Submit an application to cancel your registration.
Your cancellation as a public accountant would result in the public accounting firm / PAC / Accounting LLP not meeting the requirement that two-thirds of the partners/directors are public accountants
  1. Submit a Change in Particulars of the public accounting firm / PAC / Accounting LLP to admit new public accountant partner(s) (in a public accounting firm and Accounting LLP) or new public accountant directors (in a PAC).  The new public accountant director must also be a member of the PAC.
  2. Submit an application to cancel your registration.

Who Can Make the Application

The public accountant or registered filing agents (acting on behalf of the public accountant) may submit the application to cancel the registration as a public accountant.

How to Make the Application

The public accountant may do so himself, or engage the services of a registered filing agent (e.g. law firm, accounting firm or corporate secretarial firm) to assist in his submission.

Step 1: Log on to Bizfile

For Individuals

Log on to Bizfile to submit the online transaction.

Under the menu bar, navigate to "Deregister" > "Public accountant" > "Deregister as a public accountant".

You will be directed to file a General lodgement. Under the general lodgement type. select "Cancel registration as a public accountant" under the header "Public accountant and accounting entity".

For Registered Filing Agents (acting on behalf of public accountants)

Engage the services of a registered filing agent (e,g. law firm, accounting firm or corporate secretarial firm).

Step 2: Submit

Download, complete, and submit the manual form in the online General lodgement transaction. 

No payment is required.

What to do After Applying

You can expect an outcome of your application within 14 to 21 working days.
